Known Problems and Work-Arounds
44 October 1, 1998
Description OV NNM discovers some wanprobes as “Generic Computer”
devices
Symptom In OV NNM submaps, some wanprobes appear as ‘box’ entities, for exam-
ple, without a bitmap. Their type is classified as a Generic Computer.
Details This happens because OV NNM does not have a sysobjectid<->type map-
ping defined for the wanprobe. If NetMetrix is not installed the mapping,
to oid_to_sym file is missing. Unfortunately, OV NNM does not have an
update or re-evaluate feature where it re-examines the object and
updates its type information. [Defect ID 0804–023895]
Work-Around The two work-arounds include before and after installation solutions. We
recommend the pre-installation solution.
● Pre-installation solution
1 Install NetMetrix
2 Install WanProbes
3 Let NNM discover WanProbes or add the probes by using Agent
Manager.
● Post-installation or WanProbes deployed before installing NetMetrix,
Customer will see colored boxes for all wanprobes. They will have to:
1 Install NetMetrix
2 Remove WanProbe objects
3 If you can ping the WanProbes from OVNNM, let OVNNM dis-
cover WanProbes or add the probes by using Agent Manager.
