Known Problems and Work-Arounds
40 October 1, 1998
Description Illegal MAC addresses are not identified
Symptom Empty graph window for Node Statistics graph or Traffic Matrix graph,
or unsuccessful search in Load Monitor graphs.
Details When using Node Statistics graph or Traffic Matrix graph, if you enter
an illegal MAC address, the application attempts to start against the
address you specified, and an empty graph window is shown. Similarly,
Load Monitor’s search function attempts to locate the illegal MAC
address, then reports “not found.”
The problem also manifests itself if you specify an address containing too
many characters. In this case, however, all indications are that the first
12 characters you entered are used, even though this is not the case.
For example, if you intend to search a Load Monitor source graph for
address 080009433361 but you type an extra 1 at the end of the address
(e.g., you specify 0800094333611), the search will report that address
080009433361 could not be found, even though this address may actually
be represented in the graph.
Work-Around Ensure that you specify the correct MAC addresses when using these
applications.
Description LanProbe “duplicate IP address” traps displayed in OpenView’s
event browser show addresses in hexadecimal
Details When a LanProbe detects a duplicate IP address, it sends a trap to the
management station(s) in the default trap group. The corresponding
events in OpenView’s event browser show the relevant IP addresses in
hexadecimal.
Work-Around Launch RMON Log Table for the LanProbe that generated the trap. The
log table includes the IP addresses in dotted decimal notation.
