Preface
This guide helps you to install a Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controller (referred to as the controller
hereafter). The controller is part of the Cisco Wireless LAN Solution.
Organization
This guide is organized into the following sections:
• “Collecting Required Tools and Information” describes the tools and information that you need prior
to installing the controller.
• “Determining a Physical Location” explains how to find a suitable location for installing the
controller.
• “Installing the Chassis” explains how to install the controller chassis.
• “Connecting and Using the CLI Console” explains how to connect the CLI console to the controller.
• “Performing Power On Self Test” explains how to perform a power on self test (POST) on the
controller.
• “Using the Startup Wizard” describes how to use the startup wizard to perform initial configuration
of the controller.
• “Logging In” describes how to log on to the controller.
• “Connecting the Network (Distribution System)” describes how to connect your network to the
controller.
• “Connecting the Service Port Interfaces” describes how to connect the Cisco WCS, Web User
interface, and CLI console to the service port.
• “Connecting Access Points” describes how to connect access points to the controller.
Conventions

• Terminal sessions and system displays are in screen font.
• Information you enter is in boldface screen font.
• Nonprinting characters, such as passwords or tabs, are in angle brackets (< >).
