Step 3 Use the show interface atm card/subcard/port command to check the interface status.

Step 4 Check the status of the interface. If the ATM interface is down and the line protocol is down, begin
checking for active alarms and defects.
Step 5 Check the MTU field. This indicates the largest number of bytes of “payload” data a frame can carry,
not counting the frame's header and trailer. For an ATM interface, the MTU should be 4470 bytes.
Step 6 Check the Last input and Last output fields. They show the number of hours, minutes, and seconds since
the last packet was successfully received or transmitted by the interface.
